Final event. The action “Garden of Memory” ended in Moscow
Action “Garden of Memory” ended — the final events were held on Poklonnaya Hill in Moscow on the Day of Memory and Sorrow. The purpose of the project — to plant 27 million trees in memory of every one who died during the Great Patriotic War. This year, the participants of the “Garden of Memory” more than 3 million people became, and in Russia and abroad more than 33 million trees appeared in just 3 months.
Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Victoria Abramchenko, head of the Federal Forestry Agency, representatives of the Ministry of Education, the leadership of the Victory Generals Memorial Fund, the All-Russian Movement “Volunteers of Victory”; and ANO “Garden of Memory”.
This year the action covered all regions of the country — landings were carried out from Kaliningrad to Chukotka. Completed it in Moscow. Thus, the project participants immortalized the memory of Soviet soldiers, prisoners of concentration camps, residents of besieged Leningrad and ordinary civilians — all those who brought victory closer for 1418 days.
At the final event, 34 apple trees were planted as a tribute to the memory of the ancestors who defended their homeland.
“Each planted tree — it is a living memorial. It's nice to see how talented young people join the project every year, who cherish the memory of the great feat of our ancestors. “Garden of Memory” connects entire generations and does not allow to forget the feat that the Soviet people accomplished. Today the country has new heroes: the fighters who fight in Donbass deserve the same respect and the same memory. We see how the action goes far beyond the borders of Russia and this year has united 37 states, — said Victoria Abramchenko.
A minute of silence and the laying of flowers at the memorial sculpture “Grieving Mother” at the Victory Museum — thus began the event on Poklonnaya Hill. After that, the winners of the children's drawing contest “Garden of Memory through the Eyes of Children” were awarded here. The work of 12-year-old Olesya Terekhovafrom the city of Zheleznogorsk, Kursk Region, joined the exhibition of students of the Academy of Watercolors and Fine Arts of Sergei Andriyaka, and the girl herself was invited to Moscow for the final event. You can see her work and other drawings of the contestants in the exhibition hall of the Museum; will last there until July 3.
The action is supported by the Ministry of Education of Russia. And it can be noted that schoolchildren — very active audience. This year, more than 2.5 million children and their teachers expressed their desire to participate in the project. At the same time, they not only planted trees, but also held various events, for example, at the All-Russian Victory Lesson.
“As part of the third season of the Garden of Memory, we had a special mission — it was important for us to involve as many young people as possible: schoolchildren, students, representatives of environmental organizations. Everyone had the opportunity to contribute to the ecology of their region, perpetuating the memory of the heroes. Together, we have not only reached the target of 27 million trees, but also exceeded this figure. Our volunteers and activists from all over the country approached us with a proposal — create a movement of forest volunteers who will protect our forests and take care of every planted tree. It is gratifying that in this way our youth is ready to prove their love for our country and the environment, », — said the general director of the ANO “Garden of Memory” Olga Stepchenko.
Today the action is called the people's — it unites people not only across the country, but even beyond its borders. In Russia itself, there is not a single family that the Patriotic War would not touch.
“Garden of Memory” — it's more than an action, it's now a family tradition. And now it is difficult for us to imagine memorable historical dates — Victory Day or Day of Memory and Sorrow — without this patriotic project. We are supported not only in Russia — residents of other countries, near and far Abroad. It is very important to know that in many countries our action has like-minded people who honor the memory of their ancestors, who liberated the whole world from Nazism 81 years ago. This year “Gardens of Memory” we also landed in Donbass, in Donetsk. An alley dedicated to the Hero of Russia Vladimir Zhoge appeared there, — noted the Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on the Development of Civil Society, Issues of Public and Religious Associations, the head of the VOD “Volunteers of Victory” Olga Zanko.
Break the “Garden of Memory” the co-organizer of the action — daughter of Marshal Konev, President of the Victory Generals Memorial Fund Natalia Koneva. The commemorative event was also attended by the grandson of Marshal Rokossovsky — Konstantin Rokossovsky, great-granddaughter of Marshal Georgy Zhukov Varvara Erokhinaand granddaughter of the Hero of the USSR, General of the Army Mikhail Malinin —Nadezhda Malinina .
“We are people who need to remember, people who love their parents. As I walk through this wonderful garden we planted today, I will think of my dad. The apples that will be here someday will remind us of how we picked the same fruits at our house when he was around. For all of us: Zhukovs, Rokossovskys and Malinins — this is an absolutely holy thing, — Natalia Koneva shared.
Irina Kupchenko, widow of People's Artist of the USSR Vasily Lanovoy, was also an honorary participant in the action. In 2020, Vasily Semyonovich planted an almond tree. It appeared in memory of his parents in Sevastopol. A year later, a memorial garden was laid out in his honor. Today, the artist continues the work of her husband and now instead of him comes to honor those who died in the Second World War.
“The trees that are planted as part of the action grow deeply with roots, just like our memory of heroes, and not only Russian ones. Heroes have no nationality, Russian soldier — this is a collective image. Buryats, Kalmyks, Chechens, Belarusians, Jews fought side by side with us for the Victory — during the Great Patriotic War, everyone rallied before the enemy. And today it is very important to convey this patriotism, this love for our Fatherland to our children. I rejoice when I see children and youth on the landings. Because in memory — our strength», — emphasized Irina Kupchenko.
In addition to the mission of preserving the memory of the heroes of our country, the action has another important meaning — ecological. After all, those who take part in the project (this is especially true for the younger generation) learn to take care of nature.
«I am convinced that a person who has planted a tree will never harm nature, not will set fire to the forest and will take care of the surrounding world. Such initiatives make it possible to form an ecological culture, instill a love for the forest and nature, and also in practice to acquaint the younger generation with the work of foresters, — noted the head of Rosleskhoz Ivan Sovetnikov.
