The administration of US President Joe Biden has decided to send multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) to Ukraine. This was reported by The New York Times, citing sources.

According to one of the newspaper's interlocutors, the American MLRS will be included in the next package of military assistance to Ukraine, which will be announced next week. He clarified that in addition to the MLRS, Kyiv will receive modern mobile rocket launchers.

Sources did not specify which system will be transferred to Ukraine, but the newspaper indicates that the United States most often exports the M31 GMLRS (Gueded Multiple Launch Rocket System). The firing range of the M31, depending on the ammunition, is from 70 to 500 km. Such installations can be equipped with guided missiles, the fire of which is corrected from satellites.

At the same time, a source from The Wall Street Journal said that US artillery systems approved for delivery to Kyiv are expected to arrive in Ukraine within several weeks.

The day before, on May 27, a CNN source in the White House said that Pentagon representatives met with the CEO of Lockheed Martin last week to discuss the supply and increase in production of multiple rocket launchers. CNN claimed that Washington intended to deliver MLRS to Ukraine next week.

At the same time, the Pentagon did not confirm reports of US readiness to supply MLRS to Ukraine. “We know that the Ukrainian side is requesting both privately and openly multiple launch rocket systems. But I will not talk about decisions that have not yet been made, — said Pentagon spokesman John Kirby.

However, the Biden administration withheld such supplies for several weeks amid fears expressed in the National Security Council that Ukraine could use weapons to shell Russian territory. Another reason why the United States was in no hurry to transfer the MLRS, & mdash; doubts whether Washington can afford to give away so many high-end weapons from military stockpiles.

Politico wrote that in response to requests from Kyiv, in recent months, the United States has supplied Ukraine with old Soviet missile systems stored in allied warehouses.

In Russia, they warned earlier that the supply of weapons by Western countries to Ukraine, the charges of which are capable of reaching the territory of Russia, will lead to an escalation. Moscow considers “inflating” supply of arms to Ukraine. At the same time, the Kremlin stated that they would not prevent Russia from achieving the goals of the military operation. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also warned that the Russian military would consider any shipments in Ukraine that Russia considers to be foreign weapons supplies as legitimate targets.
