The cause of the fire at the Novoshakhtinsky oil refinery was the impact of two drones, the message on the website of the refinery says. There, the incident was assessed as “terrorist actions.”

The first strike from the western border of the Rostov region was recorded at 8:40. “The hit occurred on the technological equipment of the ELOU-AVT-2.5 (I) oil processing plant, as a result of depressurization of the air coolers located on the third section of the pedestal, hydrocarbon gas was released, accompanied by an explosion and the spread of fire to the nearby equipment of the installation” ;,— reported at the enterprise.


The second blow— for the facilities of the crude oil tank farm— was struck at 9:23. As a result, the equipment was damaged, but there was no fire.

The plant personnel were evacuated, the equipment was stopped to assess the damage caused. No one was hurt.

The Novoshakhtinsky plant is located in the Krasnosulinsky district of the Rostov region, not far from the border with the LPR. In 2020, the refinery processed 4.8 million tons of oil.
