“President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev reprimanded Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Arab Republic of Egypt Kairat Kairbekuly Lama Sharif for non-compliance with the requirements of paragraph 9 of the Code of Ethics for Civil Servants of the Republic of Kazakhstan,” the press service said.

As KazTag clarifies, on March 3, the diplomat published on his Facebook page (its owner, the Meta company, was recognized as extremist and banned in Russia ) a post where he proposed to “get rid of the controversial names of the times of the USSR and colonial Russia.” Now the publication is not available on the ambassador's page on the social network, and the content at the link that previously led to the message is not available.
“First of all, it must be recognized that the “region” ("bald")— the key word in the Kazakh language is from the Russian language, and in order to preserve the purity of our state language, the administrative-territorial structure must be written as “өңір”; (region, krai. — RBC)»,— quotes from KazTag Ambassador's post.
Sharif also suggested changing the names for some of the regions and cities of Kazakhstan. So, for example, he intends to return the name of Astana to the capital of the republic, the city of Nur-Sultan, and the former capital— the name of Alma-Ata (now in Kazakh it is Almaty). The name of the republic should also be changed instead of Kazakhstan “Kazakh State”, Sharif believes.
